HD-DVD Format Dropped By ToshibaTuesday, February 19, 2008 Rumors have arisen that Toshiba has also abandoned the HD-DVD, its own format. It has fought a long battle, and the series of events in 2008 have led to the final decision to drop its own product format. At the start of the year we saw Warner Bros, a major player, going the Sony Blu-Ray path. Also, Paramount and Universal, both big names have been looking for Blu-Ray too. Toshiba has been involved with Sony in an intense format war, but now it seems like Sony is going to win easily. Recently, Best Buy and Netflix, movie rental services also made announcements that they would be going for Blu-ray format, which was another major blow to Toshiba. Similarly, WalMart also made a statement of going Blu-ray exclusive. Toshiba had been making some final efforts for the war, like reducing the prices of peripherals, but now it seems that it has lost all hope, and HD-DVD is going to die a premature death.
