80GB Sony PS3 Launch and 60GB PS3 Price DropTuesday, August 07, 2007 The 80GB Sony PS3 has arrived and is now available for purchase. The upgraded version of the popular gaming console costs $599 USD and comes bundled with MotorStorm, a fun off-road racing game. In a smart marketing move by Sony, the company has dropped the price of the 60GB Playsation 3 down to $499 USD which has resulted in a 113% retail sales jump. The 80GB PS3 is quite similar to the 60GB PS3 but does not come powered with the "Emotion Engine" which is a chip that supports Playstation 2 game titles. A spokesperson for gaming and electronics giant Sony Corp. claims that due to a surge in sales, followed immediately after the announcement of the price drop, the company expects all remaining 60GB PS3's will be sold out by this fall.
