Linux Enabled Sony PS3Thursday, February 22, 2007 TerraSoft is currently accepting pre-orders for a new Sony Playstation 3 which now comes installed with Linux along with the standard PS3 operating system.
Since late last year, before the PS3 was initially shipped in fact, the Cell BE processor has been supported by the Linux community. The Linux based version of the PS3 will include an installation guide as well as a DVD and sticker. The specs are a 60GB hard drive, WiFi, gigabit Ethernet, a Blueray DVD player, 256MB of Rambus RAM, HDMI and 4 USB ports. At this time, The PS3 happens to be the only device taking advantage of the Cell BBE processor. The processor was developed by Sony, IBM and Hitachi. There are rumors that Sony plans to surrender it's partial ownership of the chip in order to allow IBM to market the technology to other device manufacturers. Powered by dBLOGGER |
