Nintendo Wii wins holiday shopping battleThursday, December 28, 2006 The results are in and the Nintendo Wii sold more units than all other third generation gaming consoles this holiday season. At first, many critics questioned the Wii and it's ability to attract gamers but Nintendo has proven they refuse to be left in the dust. As the Wii gained exposure and more details of the new gaming console were revealed it became evident that the Wii would become a serious player in the next generation gaming console war.
So what exactly spawned this Nintendo Wii purchasing blitz? For starters, Nintendo knows how to market their devices very well and the price is right. Nintendo targets consumers of all ages, making their consoles enjoyable to a wider group of gamers. Also, let's not forget the introduction of their new revolutionary motion censored remote control which allows gamers to be more interactive in the games they play. I could rant all day with reasons why Nintendo continues to do so well, but I'm sure you probably get the point. Sony sold many PS3 units, but it's high price and low production numbers kept them far behind in the race of total units sold during the Christmas rush. The Xbox 360 is still in the lead as far as overall next-generation gaming console units sold, but keep in mind that Microsoft also had a full one year head start. The Nintendo Wii may have won the 2006 holiday shopping battle, but the race continues and we all know anything can happen in this highly competitive gaming industry. Powered by dBLOGGER |
